Rinomina is an artist-run space founded in 2015 by Daniela Baldelli and Markus Lichti.
It is initiated to promote a closer dialogue between artists and the audience with a focus on an exchange of artistic practice between Germany, France and other countries.
Is „home“ the place where you’ve been born?
Impossible, in my life I’ve changed 2 continent , 4 country, 9 city, and about twenty apartments. Even the country where I was born (Ethiopia) has changed its borders and its constitution in 1991 and finally even the name (Eritrea).
What do you see and feel when you look out of the window?
Trellis, a crocodile and the end of winter.
I’m not complaining, the sky is blue, the tasks are done.
How would your best friend (partner/visitors, guests) describe your rooms?
It depends to whom and on the context but certainly the words „small“ and „great“ would be mentioned…
It’s great, Dani!
How do you decide what artist you exhibit?
We try to show what we like.
Taste is the pilot…the questions is: What is taste?
Your favorite art space?
All spaces with good intentions.
Definitely spaces with a majority of female positions in the shows.
Why do we need independent art spaces?
Nothing is completely independent, but to think and to act independent is essential.
I think it’s necessary in every society to have independent structures.
What means independence for you?
A certain stance not to follow.
Making my own compromises.
For what Rinomina stands for?
An openness to everything. No barriers.
Rinomina, is a transitive verb [consists of re- and name] (I rename it, etc.)
means to name again, even in the sense of re-election; to re-name
or change of name; in particular, in the informatics, assign a file or document a different title from the previous one.
Is the italian expression for renaming a file on a computer.
The fascinating possibility of literally renaming everything, to arrange differently is the main inspiration for this space.
We try to apply this principle of tidying especially at the level of the program
We love contrasts and paradoxes.
In short, our leitmotif is, to not have a leitmotif in the program
Something you‘ve always wanted to say?
It will remain my secret.
I said it already 😀
