“Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.” Zhuang Zhou The total installation Field of Flowers is created by Anna Taganzeva-Kobzeva. Images of flowers and butterflies often appear in Anna’s works, symbolizing the duality of the beautiful and the sublime, the beginning and the end, life and death. The artist connects the ephemeral and harmless image of a butterfly with images of military drones and the idea of mass surveillance. The famous quote of Zhuang Zhou, one of the founders of Taoism, which became the prologue of this pop-up exhibition, was inspired by the history of our space. What was once a Chinese restaurant and souvenir has become a contemporary art venue - the reality around us is relative and full of casual irony.Text
