Subheadline

Die Galerie im Marstall Ahrensburg is an exhibition house for contemporary art of the foundations of Sparkasse Holstein. The gallery in the former Marstall opposite Ahrensburg Castle hosts up to five exhibitions per year. The program focuses on the presentation of artists from the northern German region. National, international and classical positions complete the program. Publications accompany the exhibitions. Within the framework of an extensive mediation program, artist talks, discussion rounds on specific topics as well as the "Stormarner Kinderatelier" for children and young people take place.

Text

Thorben Eggers' painting is based on digital image processing techniques. The Hamburg-based artist develops his pictorial motifs from digital templates, which he alienates automatically with the help of artificial intelligence. What interests him about this form of digital image processing are the automatically generated imperfections. From the digital template, he creates pictorial objects that he paints using traditional oil techniques on specially made canvases. In this respect, the artist's work questions the position of painting in the digital age. Thorben Eggers is showing a selection of his current works in the current exhibition Digital Longing at the Galerie im Marstall Ahrensburg, which can be seen there from March 27 to May 1. While in 2020 situations such as home office, lockdown and closed schools or daycare centers in particular became part of everyday life and private, professional and artistic spheres blurred together, the artist was increasingly concerned with interior views and began to transfer their structural features to his oil paintings. Starting in 2021, the artist turned back to the outdoors - for example in his work Gestus, which is also the title motif of the exhibition - and now paints landscapes that combine romantic experiences of nature with digital techniques. With his exhibition and his working method, Thorben Eggers ties in excellently with the 2022 annual theme of the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Stormarn - Material & Medium. His medium is classical oil painting, whereby his material is created through artificial intelligence are created picture realities.
