DIVINE by Aurore-Caroline Marty at KOMMET artspaceText
Aurore-Caroline Marty develops multiple narratives increasingly intertwining living arts, sound art, photography and crafts. Her practice does not stop growing: over the last few years she’s been indulging in experimenting with new techniques like stained glass, stone carving, embroidery, batik1 or even metal forging. Thus, the artist enjoys taking new perspectives on materials and new techniques so as to extract new shapes. Rather than learning “trendy” techniques, she happily turns towards materials and processes that are considered today as obsolete to reveal their fantastic potential. Not wanting to prioritise any materials, she naturally confronts them with more noble materials. Compassionate towards certain unliked colours and materials, she doesn’t hesitate to use salmon pink paint, violet, insulating foam, pool noodles, or “marble effect” wallpaper. She never looks to hide or camouflage the materials, their “cheapness” left purposefully clear.
Born in 1985 Aurore-Caroline Marty lives and works in Dijon. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art (ENSA) of Dijon in 2010. She then became an assistant to Marc Camille Chaimowicz until 2016. Her work has been shown at Ateliers Vortex (Dijon), at Musée Estrine (Saint-Rémy-de-Provence), or even at the Sainte-Marie d’Annonay (by invitation from the GAC). Aurore-Caroline Marty has done several residencies, notably at Villa Belleville (Paris), at the Bourgogne FRAC (Dijon), at Moly-Sabata (Sablons) or more recently in Benin in partnership with the Zinsou foundation.
