"A Decathlon should come into the shopping center Schillerpassage" This is the title of Sebastian Jung's artistic intervention in Schiller's Gartenhaus. Human figures formed from insulation boards, effigies from that shopping mall, are transplanted to the place Friedrich Schiller inhabited with his family during the summers of 1797 to 1799. With the means of intervention, Jung changes the place where visitors from all over the world like to linger, seek contemplation and leisure, precisely because of the idyllic garden - just as more and more people are using shopping malls, furniture stores and gas stations as places of leisure, encounter and social interaction. Sebastian Jung looks beyond the mere juxtaposition of supposed cultural citizens and consumers. In his intervention, he rather asks about those existential themes that connect us all: Loneliness, everyday weariness, fear of old age, illness and death, but also the desire for well-being and warmth, the longing for bliss and paradisiacal conditions. Where political art ends with slogans, Sebastian Jung only begins, with a poetic and political view, and cheekily reflects the actual impudence of our conditions. And if we want to talk about being human and about alienation, we cannot avoid Schiller. ...
