Text

––––––––– (dashes) The project is the result of a two-month artist residency at the Pikart studio. The project explores the phenomenon of entropy as an unstoppable and permanent process of destruction, an unclear outcome - humanitarian, environmental, economic, as the energy of chaos and splitting. It can also be dashes - traces of an inconspicuous presence or inexpressible intention within the given boundaries of the studio space - a former pharmaceutical plant in the center of Moscow, which is now being reformatted into art studios and offices. The final exposition was partly made up of materials that lost their relevance in the renovated space and were left on the street, where they corroded (metal beams) or were broken (glass blocks). The artist brought unwanted and neglected elements back into the studio space, where they entered into a dialogue with the contemporary use space and pictorial elements. Carved out of the two-dimensional space of the picture (closed and absorbing space), human bodies demonstrate the materiality of art work - this is not only an image of the body, it is a soft canvas covered with oil paint; this is not only a metal beam, it is a structural element that holds the interior space of the studio. In this context, the nailed and defeated human body is also read as a kind of product and waste material of cruel civilizational changes, the crisis situation that we are currently living through. –––––––– (dashes)
