Gryningströsklar

Melanie Wiksell works with customs and traditions associated with the history of death, its material and intangible cultural heritage. By looking back at the rites of mourning and its depictions, Wiksell sees her works as material proposals for connecting past, present and future. The works explore collective and private narratives based on thoughts about loss, memory, history and place. The exhibition ’Gryningströsklar’ at Gallery Svarta Gran shows a series of new works where some of the works are adapted from older local traditions around mourning and burials from Dalarna region of Sweden. They tell about memories, home, clothing and preparations we share through places that connect us.
