Text

For the party to kick off in the global now, three artists each invite another artist from abroad to come to the bar. The artistic works find their way over current borders into the cellar to celebrate a gathering with the already existing interior. There is gonna be music, drinks and the opportunity for new acquaintances. The exhibition PARTYKELLER shows up in a room that was built in the late 80ies by a young woman and her brother-in-law in the cellar of her single family house in Soest, Westfalen/ Germany. Just at one staircase’s distance and hidden in the intimacy of a private home the Partykeller is like a club. Filled up with heavy sweet smells, colourful lights, and moist smoky air. Within this place, the cellar hosts an accumulation of travel oddities from overseas and discarded and hand-me-down household utensils. Full of sentimentalism, desire and little romanticism it offers the possibility for unobserved social get-together. In these days of the pandemic we experience community in completely different ways.During Covid-19 pandemic, the Partykeller promises a space to indulge in forgetting about the crisis outside of internal and external monitoring. The invited artists share memories and ideas of the Partykeller as a room for the follies of youth, secretly opened bottles of spirit, the first tongue-kiss and escalated house parties.
