Hunting Hearts

With their first Duo-Show "Hunting Hearts" Laura Suryani Thedja and Maria Serga create a space full of tension, which at first sight seems harmonious, poetic, but Thedja's and Serga's paintings are all about stories, about sexuality, turf wars, hunting, territorial fights and love. However, it is not only the individual works that tell stories, but one must read between the works, compare the works, because they have clear references to each other. The works are meant to be related to each other. The hunt to be followed, the fight to be examined, the love games to be surveyed. Quotations, characters are found again; you just have to let yourself be drawn into the spell of Serga's and Thedja's impulsive, moving, suspenseful narratives. The setting in Laura Suryani Thedja's stories is the open nature, from an aesthetic point of view, as nature acts as a resting space, a restful space. But also as a fictional space, detached from reality, in that man and nature are contrasted. Thedja questions this approach and treats in her work this distance and its origin. Maria Serga's characters and narratives take place in living spaces, although it matters less to her whether the free nature or the urban living space functions as the setting for the scene. She plays with the inner thoughts of the characters she depicts or puts herself in.
