Kristin Wenzel LOVERS IN THE NIGHT @ Goethe-Institut Bucharest

Text

In LOVERS IN THE NIGHT nature becomes a place of longing and desire. In her site-specific installation conceived for the Goethe-Institute Bucharest, Kristin Wenzel approaches concepts such as allure, illusion, play, aspiration and desire. Griffin, Raven, Scarlett, Lilith and Blaze: a gallery of 15 ceramic sculptures becomes a graceful roundelay of floral femininity, intent on camouflage, deception and transformation, like the orchids that not infrequently bear names such as Venus' Slipper or Elf's Stand. Guests of the event glide through a world of images between a glittering, feverish disco night and a mysterious forest walk, which awakens joyful expectations, but also knows how to carry bitter disappointment. LOVERS IN THE NIGHT is curated by Frank Motz (ACC Galerie Weimar) and realized in collaboration with Goethe-Institute Bucharest and Suprainfinit Gallery. In parallel with the exhibition at Goethe-Institute, Kristin Wenzel presents a temporary installation in an empty flower kiosk in public space in Bucharest.
