I am writing to you about the new exhibition at KOMMET (Lyon, France). I curated « L’after show », a duo show with the emerging artists Louise Porte (France) and Harold Lechien (Belgium) which is visible until June the 19th.Text
Louise Porte and Harold Lechien invite us to the aftermath of a lifeless event. The staging shines but it seems that everything remains in suspense. Despite the abandonment of space by individuals, the representation of the spectacle remains through multiple abandoned "vestiges". Impossible to date this moment but stories emerge and we fantasize about what we would likely have missed.
The after show brings together the reality of an absence: the moment has passed but we re-present it to ourselves through abandoned elements. It is not the details of this hypothetical event that are the object of desire, but the illusory representation of this desire. Here, the fantasy arises via the lack, which we imagine to have missed. Thus, in this exhibition, the artists encourage us to immerse ourselves in the absurd as well as in the frustration of having, perhaps, missed the show of the year.
