Two women – constitutive; a word that has no comparative form.
It gives the Düsseldorf based artists all the possibilities they use under their collective name “Konstitutiv der Möglichkeiten“ (constitutive of possibilities) since 2017.
Their works are bursting with energy, humor, and complexity and take the chosen show rooms by storm.
With materials like wood, metal, paste, gauze, metal poles and plastered surfaces or plastic fruits the present is combined with the collected, creating new dimensions where time is suspended; all with the most incredible love for detail.
The duo’s shows virtually invite you to a space exploration of the objects that have first been undressed and then transformed into new figures.
The works immediately cast a spell with their bizarre aesthetics, whether on their own or in a group formation.
If you look at the “Siegermenü für champions“ (winner’s menu for champions) from 2020 – a golden bread roll with a can, two original soda cans – it becomes clear what makes these atists so unique. They don’t shy out of any dark topic of societal phenomena and process them into brave and honorable radiation – with an extra dose of glamour, of course.
In their current show “Bücher werfen macht klug“ (throwing books makes smart) they play with various signifiers inspired by current political situations and science fiction stories.
They raise the question where history actually takes place, where information origins, which langugage we speak, and if books are still opened nowadays or serve as a mere decoration in a designer shelf.
In the middle of the FANG studio “Der Denker“ (the thinker) is pondering all these questions and invites to the pleasures and joys of thinkers’ culture.
The collective “Konstitutiv der Möglichkeiten“, consisting of Nina Nick and Valerie Buchow, graduated at Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf.
Both artists live and work there.
