Subheadline

Paul Hutchinson displays his thoughts on current developments in urban spaces through images and sound in his solo show, "no need to be silent".

Text

Bringing together works from his latest publication "Stadt für Alle" (Distanz, 2020) with further topics of his practice, "no need to be silent" portrays urban life through the inquisitive and politically driven observations of the artist. Purposefully created systems of signifiers are revealed that raise questions of class differentiation and social inequality, whilst maintaining an air of dreaminess and fragility. As a counterpoint to his photographic endeavours, the show premiers a sound installation created on the basis of Hutchinson's writing. Taken from one of these recent texts, the title of the show "no need to be silent" refers to the underlying sentiment of opposition and revolt, the questioning of alleged authorities - a thread that runs through much of Hutchinson's work.
