We were at the Gelateria, a concave mirrored room that smells of pistachio ice cream and pumpkin seed oil. Formed steel and limp latex dangled over tables and chairs and video art blasted from a flatscreen mounted on upholstered walls. I was leafing through a catalogue of swimwear made of towels when I looked up to see him ordering at the counter. In Vienna it is customary to take a seat and order via table service, and when you are done signal the wait staff and pay them directly with a tip of around 10%. His hotness was clouding my gaydar so I couldn’t read his orientation, but he was foreign for sure.
