Mal d’Uve

UVA artist-in-residence is an artistic residency program that, during July 2022, has investigated the geographic and social morphology built on the privatization of the land and on neighborhood relations in the Piedmontese province of Nizza Monferrato (Piemonte, Italy). For the project's final act, we imagined a three-day festival, inspired by traditional Italian feasts usually held in small and rural provinces. The so called "sagre" are grass-roots events where food, drinks and music are shared between residents, creating temporary public squares. Mal d'Uve (30 September - 2 October 2022) was celebrated in the courtyard of Don Bosco Oratory, a former meeting place for the residents of Nizza Monferrato, which has been - for years - at risk of being demolished and converted into private residences. Here, the works produced during the residency by our 13 tenants were flanked by performances, talks, live sets and food and wine stands representing and promoting local small productions.
