WHO IS PLUTO
Pluto was the farthest, coldest, and darkest thing people could imagine in the solar system. In 2006, The International Astronomical Union announced that Pluto is no longer a planet, but a dwarf planet. It was simultaneously placed in a new category of Plutoid, dismissed from the solar system. The reason why Pluto became one of Plutoid is a change of the standard that humans created. Only the name that defined the relationship has changed even though Pluto itself remains unchanged. Pluto is more than something that is not a planet. Like Pluto, innumerable relationships change and the appellation continues to change. We all may be Pluto to others. Through the exhibition, WHO IS PLUTO, Subtitled NYC invites seven artists to share their thoughts, through the open metaphors and potential narratives created by their use of mundane materials(readymade) and processes of their practices. Together, the works demonstrate how each artist sees and creates their universe.
