With “A Kind of Story”, Nathalie Du Pasquier presents at Mayday an expansive collage of numerous prints. They are screen and digital prints from her archive—fragments of projects created in recent years. They bear witness to her recurring investigation into illusions of space and volume on a two-dimensional surface, the use of contrasting colours and forms as well as the representational and the abstract. Nathalie Du Pasquier uses these works on paper as a modular system, the walls of the exhibition space serving as a compositional surface. By recombining the brick-like elements, she modifies the exhibition space with simple means: line, colour and form. This allows associations with industrial landscapes or a nested interior. The result is an exciting interplay of real and depicted space, of inside and outside. Graphically reduced grids seem to pick up the tiles of the floor, cylinders and tubes connect with the silos and chimneys of the harbour area, doors are repeated in the colourful, figurative motifs.
