FANTASIE AUS TAUSEND PERLEN

With the exhibition FANTASY OF A THOUSAND PEARLS, Charlotte Rahn concludes her three-month residency in Willingshausen. In the exhibition, Charlotte Rahn references the fairy tales Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel, whose early visualizations were influenced by local costumes and architecture. From her contemporary feminist perspective, Charlotte Rahn scrutinizes them. In her paintings, sculptures, sound and the house installation, Charlotte Rahn exaggerates and distorts the motifs given to her by the fairy tales. The forest, its undergrowth and branches, its sounds and creatures, are all submerged in the artificiality of bright colors, the materiality of plastic, synthetic hair, and the light spectrum of neon LEDs. The eerie atmosphere that Charlotte Rahn creates in the space brings the fairy tales into the present and addresses the impact of the shrill utopias of the past on today's social structures.
