The house at Virtasalmentie 34, Mänttä, Finland
The purpose of the "Mäntän äärellä" project is to create an exhibition concept in which contemporary art is curated into residential properties that are available for sale in the small industrial town of Mänttä.
The population is rapidly decreasing in rural municipalities and the individual stories of rural depopulation reveal societal structural changes and the fate of communities. New owners are needed for these properties. This intermediate space of the property, past and future potential, brings new dimensions to the sites and a new context for the works.
