In her exhibition "Nightrun (Party is over)" Katja Gürtler directs her gaze into the night: dancing couples whose outlines remain vague, body parts and touches that blur into one another, a grainy look like a brief, stolen glance. Accompanied are these works by paintings that show shadowy women who are naked or scantily clad. They run through the picture without one knowing where they come from or where they are heading to. The background and surroundings remain vague and abstract. The running women take up the entire pictorial space, they are distorted. They hold their arms above them as they run, as if they need to protect themselves or pick up speed. They all wear boots - sexy cowboy boots that contrast with their nudity. In her pictures, Katja Gürtler deals with questions of autonomy, power relations, dominance of (female) bodies by taking a deeper view into the tipping points of our society. The party is over.
