Dragoner.0X - Super Contemporary Arts Fest on the grounds of the Dragonerareal in Berlin- Kreuzberg, will take place annually in summer. The festival is initiated by the artists and curators Yasmin Alt, Luis Bortt, Jan Herdlicka and Babette Werner to provide a platform for Berlin's cultural scene to connect in creative speculation, and to jointly shape the public space with many for many. Dragoner.01, the first edition of the Super Contemporary Arts Fest focused on one particular building of the Areal: the historic Adlerhalle, the former ADLER factory. More than 40 positions from diverse disciplines such as painting, photography, film and sculpture were displayed. They dealt with social, political and ecological processes in an individual way. Some works explicitly referred to the architecture and its material history. Other artists used the space for site-specific sculptures, installations and photographs, inspired by the atmosphere of the site. Some incorporated the natural materials found on the site into their documentary-experimental work, co-creating with stones, sand, and plants to produce new works for the exhibition. Some artists were fascinated by material legacies of urban human life, the traces of everyday activities and decisions that had the potential to become something else, if attention is paid to them. On view were abstract and representational paintings that enter into dialogue with their surroundings. Materials such as wax, paper, wood, stone, wool, plastics and water were used to explore the conditions of the architecture and explore its dimensions. Some works extended from floor to ceiling, reach into the space, inhabit niches or cover the walls. The works on display offered the possibility of aesthetic experience, contemplation, reflection, and distancing: unexpected, delightful, absurd, eccentric, ephemeral. The space and the viewers were always included as creative parts of the organism public space, which becomes alive through the participation of the various actors.
