Inclusion is considered an important social task of our time. The term itself describes the problem, namely the relegation of people to the fringes of society due to their origin, sexuality, religion, mental or physical condition. They are excluded by the same “majority” that subsequently aims to include them again – but only according to its own values and rules. Many people with disabilities do not see a problem in themselves or in society. To the extent that is possible, they participate in social life and have their own ideas of what living well together could look like. Yet they are rarely asked about it. Their knowledge about barriers in everyday life and about the violence of the social expectation that people have to adapt and “function” (under all circumstances) often remains invisible to their fellow contemporaries. einfach machen relies on the interest of people eager to learn different perceptions of the world and different ways of relating to each other. The exhibition project is created through a collective process in which people with and without disabilities participate. Alongside artistic works and works of Disability Arts, it also includes the results from the collaboration between the Zukunftswerkstatt Inklusion Leipzig and the Illustration class at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. There will be areas of activity and recreation. In a studio space within the exhibition, visitors can learn about artistic techniques and materials, try them out, and refine their skills. The space is equipped with workstations for a variety of physical needs. This collaborative and publicly accessible studio space is intended to continue permanently at the GfZK.
