„The voice that speaks is not your voice. It is a changing, adapting voice – sometimes kind, sometimes disturbing.“* Alexander Klaubert’s works perform ambivalence on all levels. They are based on a preoccupation with inscribed patterns of behavior that can, perhaps even must, be overcome. Flowing soft textiles solidify in epoxy resin and at the same time experience a renewed lightness when they float delicately in the gallery space. Stainless steel finds expression in filigree, branching forms. As a vibrating momentum, his performance allows emotions to be physically experienced. A game with stasis and vibration, in which Klaubert challenges us to confront our own inner contradictions. Benedikt Leonhardt’s paintings show narrative tendencies for the first time. Intimations of bodies, scenes, family photos that allow us to search for clues to something recognizable. Individual white pigments lie like a veil over the canvases. Sometimes as a fine spray, sometimes as a dense, almost impermeable surface. Leonhardt abstracts radically, stimulating the desire to recognize and find a foothold in his paintings. He gently, almost subtly, nuances the transitions between closeness and distance, narrative and emotion. Stimulating, but blurred enough to make our perception pulsate. “A while to move” allows us to participate in the reflections on intimate memories, emotional states and the struggle for knowledge about one’s own being. The extraordinary sensitivity of the works by Benedikt Leonhardt and Alexander Klaubert makes it possible for opposites to flow into form and for ambivalence to be recognized as sovereignty. * Text excerpt from Alexander Klaubert’s performance “Out of the house from one day to another”, 2024 [Text by Laura Gerstmann, 2024] Performance Alexander Klaubert: Out of the house from one day to another.
