Under the same sun

The fourth presentation of the 'One Work Show' series features an in-situ installation by Giorgos Tserionis titled 'Under the Same Sun.' Tserionis's ceramic sculptures with anthropomorphizing features delve into the profound notion of a shared human experience and unity that transcends geographic, cultural, and individual boundaries. It symbolizes the interconnectedness of humanity, highlighting the idea that, despite our diverse backgrounds and differences, we all exist beneath the same celestial body. His fantasy world unfolds as a heterotopia, a term coined by Michel Foucault to describe a space that challenges conventional notions. This allows the artist to explore existential questions, delve into ontological concerns, and reconsider dynamics of coexistence. Through a diverse array of painted figures and a fusion of wall murals and ceramic sculptures, Tserionis enhances his compositions. Diverse painted figures, including the portrait of Karagiozis, Leda and the Swan, Amazons, and anthropomorphic figures, symbolize a space that is wounded and alien, where fantastical elements, intertwined with memory, experience, and history, play a pivotal role. The interplay of sensitivity with harshness, the coexistence of past and present, private and public realms, and individual and collective aspects is evident. A disruptive spirit, humor, and subtle symbolic references further enrich the artistic narrative. In the midst of today's paradoxical and tumultuous circumstances marked by instability and transition, Tserionis's proposition provides an alternative perspective on contemporary challenges. It delves into the redefinition and crisis of ideologies, social upheaval, dehumanization, alienation, and uncertainty. Centered on the values inherent in art that mirrors life and humanity, Tserionis draws inspiration from reality while expressing itself through transcendent approaches. Ultimately, his concept becomes a tool through which the fantasy world not only mirrors contemporary challenges but also sparks new viewpoints and positive aspirations, underscoring the potential for renewal and reimagining within this distinctive framework.
