In her current works for Parallel 2024, Katja Gürtler focuses attention and painterly exploration on a state marked by its ephemerality and radicality: falling and letting oneself fall. Blurred bodies, flailing in movement yet remaining completely calm, oversized hands and proportions that appear distorted, while the background remains spherical and abstract—as if one catches a glimpse of a scene that must have already passed in the moment of seeing. Being between spaces and places, a brief moment in the uncertainty of the future. No longer here, and not yet there. But what does it mean to let oneself fall, to let go, to venture into the unknown? Will one be spotted and held? Can one hold oneself? Letting oneself fall as a radical act of trust—in society, a relationship, in oneself.
