Ingrid Toogood Livet stormar og strøymer Bryne Kunstforening January 31 – February 23, 2025 In the solo exhibition "Livet stormar og strøymer," Ingrid Toogood presents new works that fill the entire gallery. Six monumental paintings and a new film. The paintings are placed on the floor, and invite the viewer to move around and between them. Part of Garborgadagane, this exhibit explores themes of inner turmoil and alienation inspired by Enok Hove in Arne Garborg's novel "Fred." Hove is a character who is plagued by deep doubts and uncertainties, and who experiences a strong feeling of being a stranger. In a similar way, Toogood´s painting is characterized by an underlying ambivalence, where the familiar and safe at the same time seem strange and unsettling. In her universe, clear answers are not always given, and the viewer is faced with a world tha ghallenges understanding. Through mirrors, reflections and shadows, Ingrid creates a visual language that expresses how we understand ourselves and our place in the world - always seen through the eyes of others or the expectations of society. Toogood thus invites us to reflection, where we do not necessarily find clear answers, but become aware of the many layers of complexity that shape our understanding of existence.
