LACUNE is a multimedia exhibition located in the space of the old Chapelle de l'Ancien Hôpital Général. It includes three video installations, a two-channel film, ceramic objects, a slide projection installation, a flash mob, and a series of drawings made with Chinese ink.
LACUNE interacts with the architecture of the chapel and recalls its history: until the 1980s, a city hospital stood next to the chapel. It admitted not only the seriously ill but also socially vulnerable, or simply homeless, people. There was a separate entrance from the hospital building into the chapel, intended for them. Today, this entrance is closed, the hospital itself has been destroyed, and in its place a new administrative building has been constructed — a courthouse.
The LACUNE project speaks of human and historical fragility, of the brittleness of memory, of things that have not been preserved but continue to gape — with their glowing voids — through the centuries. Lacune is a gap, a screaming emptiness that makes us reflect on how we continue to live among the ruins of history.
