Depth of Field corresponds to the distance between objects in a visual frame. When manipulated, via processes of focusing or perspective, depth of field can render different moments in time visible within the same shot. Mónica de Miranda’s exhibition is articulated through this image: Depth of Field is a project constructed on the basis of video, performance and installation. It proposes a time that is both fictional and documentary, between past, present and future, centred on the contemporary presence of colonialism. The exhibition proposes an encounter between utopian visions, ecology and moments of caring and listening, articulated in the actions, words and images that are presented and proposed. Depth of Field is held in two venues in the city of Porto – the Galeria Municipal do Porto and the Escola das Artes | Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Mónica de Miranda (1976, Porto, Portugal) is a Portuguese artist of Angolan origin who lives between Lisbon and Luanda. A filmmaker, artist and researcher, she works in an interdisciplinary manner, with drawing, installation, photography, film, video and sound in their expanded forms, on the border between fiction and documentary. She was Portugal's representative at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
