Sound is not merely ephemeral––it is in constant interaction with its surroundings, engaging in an ongoing exchange between material and immaterial dimensions. The exhibition Resonances describes the interplay of sound, space, time and body. We are interested in its textures, the way it transforms into movement and physical experience. How sound becomes both material and memory.
Artistic expressions shift between harmony and dissonance, rhythmic dialogues with the architecture materialise into visual patterns, a gentle swaying lulls us into sleep and ghostly sounds hint at possible futures. Archival recordings gather with contemporary perspectives, creating a dialogue between past, present and future. The artists aim to disrupt a continuum by creating a glitch in the historical echo that reverberates through this distinct space-time arc, their pieces fusing into a practice of counter-memory. The direct encounter of these works reflects the variety of approaches to the shifting role of sound as a medium––how it shapes and is shaped by the places it inhabits.
Resonance is the transformation through the encounter with the other. The visitors are not just recipients, but active elements in the acoustic field of the exhibition. Their movement influences the distribution and direction of vibration. This makes the visitors’ interaction a basic condition for the exhibition, emphasizing that we are always part of a dynamic system.
