Disko, a solo exhibition by Nancy Lupo, begins with an ambiguous fantasy and a pull toward Greenland as a frozen, glittering landscape. Here, the longing for infinite fields of ice stands in contrast to the reality of its disappearance. The title is a reference to Greenlandâs Disko Bay, home to the second-largest concentration of icebergs in the world. The exhibition came to be amid entwined realities of personal escapism and geopolitical anxiety, where power grabs and extractivist mentalities linger over an enchanted terrain.
Nancy Lupo is an artist currently based in Berlin. Her sculptures engage with material culture and language, exploring how collective fantasies and emotions become embedded in form. She tests ambiguity and confusion as conditions that are both unsettling and full of potential. Lupo holds degrees from The Cooper Union and Yale University. Since 2024, she has been appointed as a professor at Kunsthochschule Mainz. Recent exhibitions include âOur Villasâ at Apollo, Mainz, Germany (2025); âPrincessletthewindâ at Kunstverein Schwerin, Schwerin, Germany (2025), and âHallelujah Electricityâ at Good Weather, Little Rock, Arkansas (2025).
The exhibition is supported by Antenna Shanghai and accompanied by a text from writer and curator Tosia Leniarska.
