Do we need to be physically in a place in order to experience it? As a reaction to current and challenging times, das weisse haus’ screening program "TRAVEL APPARATUS" offers visitors the opportunity to travel to 34 destinations without leaving the exhibition space. The aim is not to provide a touristic experience but rather to open up political questions related to present environmental issues, social inequality, colonial structures, and many other subjects that are key to understand the world we live in. Furthermore, "TRAVEL APPARATUS" reflects upon the role of the visitor and the exhibition’s format. Each visitor can individually choose the content of the screening as well as the duration of their stay. Where do you want to go? Would you like to cross Spain by swimming through private pools? Would you prefer to visit Tuvalu in different periods of drought and flood? Would you rather go to Egypt and inspect the pyramids through their filmic representation? What about spending some days with an Iranian family in the countryside or witnessing the blank icescape and endless blue sky at the North Pole? "TRAVEL APPARATUS" proposes a possibility of departure in a time that has declared traveling to be unfeasible; a possibility of selecting a point of destination that can be experienced through a wide variety of unforeseen artistic views. June 18 – August 20, 2020, every Thursday 12-9pm das weisse haus, Hegelgasse 14, 1010 Vienna
