In her work Sibylle Eimermacher focusses on rocks, stones and minerals and the metals extracted from the ore in order to reflect on the ambivalent relationship of man towards nature. Through the tactility, beauty and energetic properties of these materials she searches for ways on how to overcome the separation that we created and reconnect with the world around us. How do we find inner balance and our place in the cosmos, and how can we restore the equilibrium of the planet? In search of balance we constantly have to deal with polarities. With the two installations in the exhibition Antimony, Sibylle Eimermacher explores the co-existence of nature and man-made, destruction and creation, aggression and healing, materiality and spirituality and the transformative potential that these polarities offer. Influences from different cultures, science fiction and martial arts are melted into hybrid objects with multilayered functionality. At moments the installation 'Polish & Tone' is activated by performers, leading from destruction to connection and care. The performers of 'Polish & Tone' wear clothes by fashion designer Mirte Engelhard. 'Pose #9' is a collaborative work with Iwan Boverhof. Biography Sibylle Eimermacher is born 1979 in MĂŒnster (DE) and lives in the Netherlands since 2000. Holding a MFA from the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen (NL) in 2006 and a BFA from the AKI Academy of Art & Design in Enschede (NL) in 2004, she works in the fields of sculpture, photography, video and performance. Selected exhibitions include 'Stenvender', Enter Artspace (Aarhus, DK), 2022; 'Turnstone', ARTisBOOK (Groningen NL), 2022; 'Power/protect/beauty/relax', Rijnstate Hospital, (Arnhem, NL), 2020; 'The Meandering Eye', GroundWork Gallery (King's Lynn, GB), 2017. In 2021 The Eriskay Connection published her photobook 'A Guide Through Hue' wherein the artist translated her autobiographical background to the geological phenomenon of erratic rocks. The book has been shortlisted for The 2022 Book Awards at Les Rencontres d'Arles (Arles, FR).
