Shadow of the Sun Make Cold Spots on the Earth Karolína Voleská You're not the one giving out grief. The time to come out into the light of day is approaching and it leaves me cold. The wind has risen. The scar shone brighter. I tilt the telescope tube closer to me. The sunlight burns on every particle of my skin. A refraction of light reaches my eye and offers me a sight that makes me shiver with fear. The shadow is subtle, I am blinded by the night. Trapped in my motionless body. Helplessness draws me. The burning turns to cold. Gentle but liberating. The moment they come to us, everything will disappear. They will burn all my essence with their chilling heat. Thoughts cease. It's a fire that burns inside, consuming everything in its path. Innocence is what I've always lacked. If you close your eyes, you'll see it. Deep inside you, where only the eye of the telescope can see. Right there flows the glow of the Black Sun. Indeed, on closer inspection, the things we generally think of as fixed and unchanging are nothing more than a long chain of events. An occasional interaction of natural forces, a process that manages to hold its shape for a time, to remain in equilibrium, before crumbling into dust again. I don't consider my own intuition and my ideas "natural" because even when it is dark and my body perceives nothing, one tiny particle travels through my mind. There are dreams in which a moment can freeze forever. But my grief is not caused by non-being. It is caused by innocence. Without innocence, one's non-existence would not cause us pain. In this sense, even the pain caused by non-being is something good and perhaps beautiful because it comes from what gives life meaning.
