I lay my head on the pillow. Stories from last weekend soothe me, wrapped into clinking of glasses. Anatomy split in two, my body is with you but my mind is elsewhere. And you play with my hair while you tell them about your inability to keep plants alive. Conversations merge with fictional narrations, I'm drifting into sleep. The comfort of listening in. The comfort of having someone else fill in the silence. The comfort of pillowtalk, of your out-loud thinking, filter-free. The comfort of you confiding in me. The comfort of not having to come up with a reply. The comfort of being invited into the auricles of your labyrinth, the snail in my ear is telling me to. . . You're all with me in both realms, dissolving into one another. I usually dream about my friends, and when I wake up I reach for my phone and send them voice notes about our adventures in the night. Do you remember the songs of sunlight? The smell of melting plastic? The softness of the falling leaves? The sounds of clinking of the teeth? It was a wet dream but it wasn't like.. horny, and you were there, just out of reach, on the other side of the curtain.
