In his project, Misha explores the concepts of uncertainty and self-determination, reflecting on travels and immigration he uses imagery inspired by Gothic architecture and medieval folklore. The main object is a huge fairy-tale-like structure with a weathervane. Similar structures can be found at the crossroads offering the wandering traveler four directions to choose from. Misha’s object also offers the choice, but instead of the cardinal points there are suits of the playing cards, so the outcome is unclear. Playing cards are used by an artist as another symbolic element, representing a way for people to determine their fate (for instance in cartomancy), while also suggesting the randomness of how they are drawn in a game. The exhibition's title, "Fate in the Deck," refers to a situation where the outcome depends on hidden cards, much like life’s events are influenced by a mix of unknown factors. This phrase conveys the idea that the future is shaped by chance, which others call fate, hidden and found in the deck of cards. The result of the game can only be known when the cards are revealed, and more broadly, the project reflects on our essential reliance on random circumstances which are often beyond our control.
