Breathing Hard at The Pastures

Behind the characteristic handwriting and motivic register of aura-lit landscapes and grassy plains, for which Iva Davidová has gained acclaim both domestically and internationally, lie unexpectedly urgent contents. In Breathing Hard at The Pastures, the artist visually outlines feelings of climate grief at a time of environmental destruction progressing at an unprecedented rate, as well as the cognitive dissonance resulting from the knowledge that although man himself is the greatest agent of this change, man is at the same time an inseparable part of the whole of nature. Her work is permeated on the one hand by an oppression that is confronted with feelings of fascination or aesthetic satisfaction associated with the romanticization of destruction and extinction in the highest possible sense of the apocalypse.
